Dr. Amy Garcia trained at the University of Illinois at Chicago during residency and fellowship with collegue and mentor Andrew Brill, M.D.  Dr. Brill is considered to be one of the formost leaders in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and has dedicated his career to teaching surgery and its fundamental concepts.  He is past President of the AAGL as well as current Fellowship Preceptor and his work continues to have a profound impact on the advances of minimally invasive surgery for women worldwide.

The Fellowship in Gynecologic Endoscopy is an affiliate of the AAGL (formerly the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists) and the Society of Reproductive Surgeons (SRS) who sponsor fellowships in advanced gynecologic minimally invasive surgery.  These fellowships were created with the goal of producing a standardized training program.  The fellowship provides an opportunity for gynecologists who have completed their residency to acquire additional skils in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.

Educational objectives focus on evidence based medicine, anatomical principles, instrumentation, operative laparoscopy and operative hysteroscopy.  The fellowship offers in-depth experience using state-of-the-art techniques to treat abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, myomata, endometriosis, adhesive disease, and pelvic relaxation.

This fellowship also aims to further research in the field of minimally invasive gynecology.  Fellows are required to complete a scholarly contribution to be presented at the annual meetings of the AAGL and American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).
