Radical Hysterectomy

This procedure is usually performed to treat some kinds of cancer. With a radical hysterectomy a total hysterectomy is performed removing the uterine fundus and cervix with the removal of additional tissue that surrounds the uterus. Often pelvic lymph nodes are removed at the time of the radical hysterectomy. The ovaries and fallopian tubes may or may not be removed at the same time.
